842 Acres Acquired to Protect Water and Military
After seven years of negotiations, planning and fundraising, Tar River Land Conservancy purchased 842 acres in December from the family of the late William and Louise Gantt. The property is located near the towns of Stem and Butner in Granville County. The property is the largest protected by TRLC during its seventeen year history. Continue reading
Ledge Creek Trails Opened to Public
TRLC officially opened 3 miles of hiking trails at the Ledge Creek Forest Conservation Area in Granville County with a ribbon cutting on February 16, 2017. The parking area and trailhead is located at 3189 Brogden Road near Stem. Continue reading
TRLC Preserves 40 More Acres on Fishing Creek
Tar River Land Conservancy purchased 40 acres adjoining Fishing Creek in northern Nash County in May 2016. The newly purchased property connects to land across the creek in Halifax County that the Conservancy purchased in 2012. Over the last fifteen years, the Conservancy has preserved 1,963 acres of land on Fishing and Little Fishing Creeks through conservation easement agreements and outright land purchases. 155 Acres Purchased on Robertson Creek Near Creedmoor
TRLC recently acquired 155 acres along Robertson Creek near Creedmoor. Generous funding for the purchase was provided by the Creedmoor Board of Commissioners, the Raleigh City Council, the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, and the NC Attorney General’s Environmental Enhancement Grant Program to complete the purchase. TRLC has acquired five tracts totaling 317 acres along Robertson Creek since May 2014. Continue reading

Endangered Mussels Released in Fishing Creek
Thanks to a collaboration of several conservation agencies, the population of the endangered Tar River Spinymussel is growing in Fishing Creek and Little Fishing Creek in Nash and Halifax Counties, North Carolina. Release locations include properties owned by the Tar River Land Conservancy and privately-owned farms protected with conservation easements. Continue reading
Shortleaf Pines Planted on Conservation Property
Tar River Land Conservancy (TRLC) and its partners have planted 12,000 shortleaf pine seedlings on 23 acres of abandoned agricultural fields. The reforested fields are located on a 220-acre conservation property owned by TRLC that adjoins Brogden Road and Ledge Creek near the Town of Stem in Granville County. Continue reading
